We often get asked the question “how many calories should I eat to maintain/lose/gain weight?”. Our answer is always the same – it depends! You can be the same age, height and weight as someone and be on the same diet but achieve different results. Why? Everyone’s body is different. So many things feed into your own body’s needs – your lifestyle, exercise routine, stress, sleep, hormones, etc. The best thing you can do is get a rough idea of how many calories you should be eating and track your weight. If your weight goes up, less calories. If your weight stays the same, less calories. Assuming your goal is weight loss of course.
Below is a calorie calculator. There are loads all over the internet that will all come out with slightly different answers. This is just a rough guideline for those who do not have a starting point yet. For more bespoke guidance we would always recommend talking to a personal trainer or nutrition coach who can work through your individual situation and requirements.
Once you have worked out what calories you are trying to hit, you then want to work out what macros you should be hitting: Protein, Carbohydrates and Fat.
